When you choose to step into your phone and go through the glass to live your life in an alternate reality, it is a far cry from what is really real. Yes, on a daily basis I invite you into my world of health and food, always meticulously staged to present to you the most appealing images so you will hopefully go to my website to get the recipe. If you saw my kitchen sink after the recipes have been photographed you would have a chuckle. What a mess, a “real” mess.

I work hard every day to bring you the most up to date research and recipes to keep you healthy. It is my life’s work now and I am obsessed with what I do and so happy to be able to share all of it with you. However, when I step back into reality there is more going on than cooking and photographing my perfect world I created in my head.

Here is my real world. Let’s start with the shot of me having my monthly infusion that is more than real. Once a month I go for Immunotherapy which is a cancer treatment that helps my immune system to fight cancer. I have Multiple Myeloma. Multiple Myeloma is cancer of the plasma cells. Normal plasma cells are found in the bone marrow and are an important part of the immune system. The immune system is made up of several types of cells that work together to fight infections and other diseases. It’s part of the protocol to keep me healthy and alive.

I had a stem cell replacement in May 2016 and went into remission 2 months later and have remained in remission. There is no cure for MM but it is manageable so all that is required of me is to show up and sit for 5 hours while all I receive my gift of life, yes my gift. I have to swallow some pills too during the month, but it’s all a part of my new reality. Cancer is a part of my life, it has changed my life but does not define it.

I have so much to share with you that I can’t reveal at this moment because I know better than to say anything until signed and delivered. I have had a lot of opportunities come my way in the past 2 years and I purposely took my time to figure out what I really want to do in this next phase of my most wonderful life.

I kept my head down, focused on the big picture, went back to school and took some courses in business. I wake up every morning with a new appreciation of life, real life, and making it a bit easier.

I want to build trust between myself and the thousands of people who I talk to every day as part of this next chapter. If I’m going to expand my horizons I want to do it with you.

I’m going to continue with my work on Diet and Health for Alzheimer’s Disease. I want to help bring awareness to all the exciting research on a cure and how to slow down dementia and possibly reverse it. My friend Maria Shriver started me down this road several years ago and what she has been able to accomplish in areas of research and awareness has been astounding and I’m proud to be involved.

I am sharing my personal, (I almost wrote struggle, but I’m not going to), experience with cancer, Multiple Myeloma and how it changed my life for the better. There is groundbreaking research in the area of Multiple Myeloma and it changes almost daily with more and more promise towards a cure and new protocols.

I’m super excited about my newest cookbook “Food for Thought” coming out this fall! It took me 3 years to complete, I had to take a year off so I could get well (reality) but I did it! I can’t wait for you to see it, it was a true labor of love.

I researched every single ingredient and why you should include it in your diet, tested each recipe at least 3 times before it made it to the final edit. The absolutely stunning photo’s my friends and extraordinary photographers @whteonricecouple Diane Cu and Todd Porter made everything come alive through their lens. I cooked all the recipes along with the best kitchen help, my daughters Alex and Arianna. I styled all the photos which is the part that I love the most.

Reality? My kitchen was a mess, a huge mess, it gave me anxiety because I am one of those people who alphabetize my herbs jars and line up my glasses according to height, and stack plates so they are uniform. (There is something wrong with me). I’m still wiping stuff off the ceilings!

I already started my next series of books and soon I will be able to share with you what is REALLY next for me and us!
